How Hano handles commercial relationships

The short version

Some links from Hano to retailer websites may be affiliate links. If you click one and make a qualifying purchase, the retailer may pay Hano a commission. The retailer sets the price you see, and Hano does not add a separate charge for using an affiliate link.

What that means in practice

• Affiliate relationships may be operated directly by a retailer or through an affiliate network. A link is treated as an affiliate link when a qualifying purchase may create a commission for Hano.
• When a product page, curation, or reflection on Hano links out to a participating retailer, that link may carry a tracking parameter that identifies Hano as the referrer.
• If you buy something after following such a link, Hano may earn a small percentage of the sale as a commission from the retailer.
• When a link is affiliated, Hano identifies that relationship in the recommendation or in the surrounding disclosure available on this page.

Design guidance and commercial relationships

Hano may earn affiliate commissions, and a design project may involve paid design guidance or trade terms offered by a supplier. Our policy is that trade terms and affiliate commissions do not influence our recommendations. We start with the customer's taste, space, budget, and practical needs, then apply Charlie Barstein's design judgment.

• The customer's brief. Existing pieces, constraints, budget, and intended use are part of the recommendation.
• Clear disclosure. We identify an affiliate relationship when it applies, and we explain commercial terms that materially affect the guidance.
• No placement purchase. A commercial relationship is not a promise of inclusion or a substitute for design fit.

Why we use affiliate links

Affiliate commissions and paid design work are potential ways Hano can support the practice. Trade pricing or other supplier terms may also exist for a particular project. We will explain the scope and relevant commercial relationship before it affects your decision, and you can always ask us how a recommendation is connected to a supplier.

We intend partnerships to help keep product information accurate and make buying easier. These are benefits we want to develop with partners; they are separate from the revenue Hano may earn.
